From their website:
A Worldwide Movement of Christian Women
The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year, and who, in many countries, have a continuing relationship in prayer and service.
• It is a movement initiated and carried out by women in more than 170 countries and regions.
• It is a movement symbolized by an annual day of celebration – the first Friday of March – to which all people are welcome.
• It is a movement which brings together women of various races, cultures and traditions in closer fellowship, understanding and action throughout the year.
Through World Day of Prayer, women affirm that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world. The motto of the World Day of Prayer is “Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action”.
Betsy again - I never thought much about days like this or their significance, because while I always believed in the power of prayer, I never really acted on it. I prayed. Of course. But something was missing. Disconnected. Now that I've gone through and am still going through my biggest personal storm ever, it means a lot more.
Just stop and think for a minute. You know how good it feels when you pray with someone else, especially out loud? Or how even better it feels when you pray in a small group of 3 or 4? You feel connected to God. Jesus interceding for you. The Holy Spirit leading you. God's promises at work and living proof (where 2 or 3 are gathered in my name, there I am in the midst of them)
Multiple that by a world full of women. Think about the power of women praying together - ACROSS THE WORLD. Wow.
We might not be praying specifically for the same things. Every woman has their own struggle, their own heartache, their own needs and desires and dreams. Every woman has their own request and hope and pain.
But aren't the themes the same? As women, we pray for love. For protection. For safety. For provision. For our husbands, families and kids. As women we pray for security and hope and faith and freedom. As women we pray for redemption, healing, restoration. For miracles.
Join me and a world full of women seeking God's heart today in prayer.
